The Registrar's Office has released the Fall schedule as well as student registration times. Read through the below headers to make sure you are ready to register!

When do I Register? Do I have a hold?
Registration begins March 30th. To find your specific registration time go to Banner Self-Service and click on "Check Registration Status" under the heading "Registration" from the Student Services/Student Accounts tab. Note, you register based on EARNED hours. Your currently enrolled courses (Degree Works status) do not count.

It is important that you verify your eligibility to register. To check holds go to: Banner Self Service; Student Services/Student Accounts; Registration; Check Registration status. The Niblock Student Center cannot remove holds from Student Accounts/Financial Services, the Dean of Students Office, Parking Services, Athletics, or other Academic Departments. Contact them directly!

What should I sign up for?
It is typically recommended that you meet with a Peer Advisor or Academic and Career Coach prior to registration. If you are unable to do so, tools such as DegreeWorks and the Catalog can be helpful in understanding remaining requirements and pre-requisites.

How do I meet with an Academic and Career Coach or Peer Advisor?
Appointments with your assigned coach can be scheduled via connect.uncc.edu. The Niblock Student Center will offer appointments now thru March 20th. Availability is usually visible for a week in advance. Pre-Majors may also make an appointment with a Peer Advisor. Weekly drop ins are also available. Check the schedule here!
We will offer DROP INS ONLY March 23rd thru April 3rd.

How do I repeat a class I've already taken or sign up for a class I'm currently enrolled in?
You must complete an online repeat authorization form. Forms are usually processed within 2 business days. Repeat authorizations for currently enrolled courses will be processed April 6th and after.

What is a Writing Intensive Course and how do I find one? A non-business elective?
To find a Writing Intensive course, do an advanced search. Highlight every subject, the Select Writing Intensive as the attributed type. WI courses are from all departments. Non-business electives are classes offered outside the business school. If you need help identifying these courses, visit the office during drop ins.

Her clients include American Express, T-Mobile, Bank of America and Weight Watchers— and it’s free for you!

1. Uptown campus events?

2. Do student loans cover study abroad? Are there any options to study abroad for Operations and Supply Chain Management? How often can you study abroad in 4 years? Was it hard to fit study abroad into your academic schedule?
Studying abroad is a great way to learn more about different cultures, while also receiving academic credit! To learn more about study abroad, visit the Office of Education Abroad website and be sure to come out to our upcoming Peer Talk, First in Flight: Navigating Studying Abroad as a First-Generation Student on March 19th from 1:00-2:30pm on the first floor of the Friday building to hear about a Peer Guide’s experience and speak with the Education Abroad Advisor from the Office of Education Abroad! Be sure to visit your Academic and Career Coach for more information specific to your major and current academic standing.

3. Networking?
Start networking by building the relationships you already have. This can include friends, mentors, peers in your classes, or even professors. Other helpful strategies are joining clubs on campus, and coming out to Lunch & Learns and Professional Development Meet Ups at the Niblock Student Center are a great networking opportunity as well! Check out our Belk College of Business calendar here for all of our events, some may require signing up ahead of time!

4. What's the best way to find internships?
Hire a Niner is a great resource for finding internships both on campus and off! On this website, you can find multiple employers who are interested in UNC Charlotte students. Also, visiting the Career Fair on Friday, February 14th is an amazing resource to make connections with employers. If you already have an internship, be sure to check our PD Meet Up: Maximizing Internship Experience on April 14th from 1:00-1:30 in Friday 302. Additionally, to learn how you can get your internship counted for academic credit, get more information at this link and attend an information session in Friday 302 at the following dates: February 26 2:30-3:30pm, March 24 10-11am, April 2 4-5pm, April 27 1:25pm-2:15pm

5. What are some suggestions for mastering a Skype interview?
Pretend as if it is an actual face to face interview. Dress professional as you would if you were going to meet them in person, make sure to eliminate all noise, check your connection, microphone, and web camera ahead of time. With any interview, practicing is key, so be sure to utilize on campus resources such as scheduling a mock interview with the Career Center and Big Interview, which is an online resource with interview tips, resume advice, and more! 

6. What are some clubs that help you network?
Beta Alpha Psi, Alpha Kappa Psi, Gamma Iota Sigma, and American Marketing Association are some of the most popular organizations for business students. Head over to Niner Engage to learn more about these organizations as well as search for others!

7. Is there a place that can help me find my major within the business college?
Absolutely! Our Academic and Career Coaching Team is always ready to help students navigate through their college journey! Also, talking to our Peer Advisors is a great way to get a student perspective on deciding a major. Be sure to visit your Academic and Career Coach or come to drop in hours at the Niblock Student Center available here.

Women in Business

The Women in Business Initiative is offering two open houses for any students interested in the Women in Business Initiative. This event is for you if you are interested in getting involved, but haven't had the opportunity to do so yet! They will be offered from 4pm- 5pm Monday, January 13 and from 12pm- 1pm Wednesday, January 15 in Friday 302.

Applications are open for the Women in Business Retreat in Greenville, SC February 7-8, 2020. Applications will close on Wednesday, January 15 and space is very limited. Spaces are filled on a rolling basis. For more information, please go to womeninbusiness.uncc.edu.

Transfer Students: Getting Involved

UNC Charlotte enrolls more transfer students than any school in North Carolina. Approximately half of the undergraduate population is made up of transfer students (https://admissions.uncc.edu/transfers). Due to this statistic, UNC Charlotte is committed to helping transfer students succeed. Continue reading to see how one of our students in the Belk College of Business has navigated her journey as a transfer student to successfully find her home at UNC Charlotte.

1. What is your name, year and area of study?

My name is Cassandra Chin and I am a senior majoring in International Business and minoring in Applied Anthropology.

2. Where did you transfer from?             

I transferred as an incoming Junior in Fall 2018 from Coastal Carolina Community College.

3. What made you choose UNC Charlotte?

Previously I toured 5 other universities, UNC Charlotte was no one of those options then.   I soon realized after touring all of them none of them felt like a place where I can have a fresh start. Then one of my friends from Jacksonville mentioned UNC Charlotte and I looked into the area. Without even touring UNCC or even visiting the Charlotte area something was calling me towards the Queen City. Before I moved here I did a transfer tour and I fell in love everything that the school had to offer.  I made my decision based off of intuition and I haven’t regretted it since.

4. What is the most significant difference between where you previously attended and UNC Charlotte?

The most significant difference from my previous school and here is the hustle and grind. At university you are independent and free to make your decisions that can impact the rest of your academic career. The same can be said about community college but at university since it is on a larger scale, there is more at stake. Which it can often intimidating at times but there has been an exponential personal growth since going through those times.

5. Which campus organizations are you involved in?

Currently I am a sister in the Delta Kappa chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity, a member of Asian Student Association and Charlotte’s Anthropology Legion. As well as University Soup Kitchen.

6. What advantages do you believe you have as a transfer student?

As a transfer student, the main advantage I think that differs us from traditional students is that we have previous college experience. Transfer students understand the basics of college/ university life. We put ourselves out of our comfort zones when we transfer. We understand that we need to meet to new people and adjust to a different environment just like we did with our first school.

7. If you could go back to when you first transferred, is there anything that you would have done differently? If so, why?

To be honest, I wouldn’t change one thing about my transfer experience. The first semester was rough for me adjusting but looking back I became more resilient and confident in who I was and am currently.

8. What advice do you have for transfer students who want to get involved but are not sure where to start?

There are a lot of students who pass you everyday to and from class, in class, and even in your dorm or apartment complex. Getting involved doesn’t always mean going to  Student Organization Events, which is highly beneficial but you can talk to people who surround you. As much it is uncomfortable and vulnerable to put yourself out there, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Ask yourself what interests you and what makes you genuinely happy. There are over 400+ student organizations here on campus. There will at least be one that sparks your interest and from there you can take a chance to open yourself up to new experiences, which is what university is here for.

9. How has getting involved on campus played a role in your journey at UNC Charlotte thus far?

Being part of extra-curricular activities have helped expand my social group. It has forced me to be more open to new experiences and for that I have become a better version of myself. My growth as an individual, friend, sister, student, and employee, I couldn’t have done without the people I have surrounded with since my journey here in Charlotte.

10. What was the best advice that you were given when you transferred to UNC Charlotte?

The best advice that has been given to me is how do you expect change if you keep doing the same routines in your life. Change your routines to see change and growth in whatever aspect of your life you want to focus on.

New Concentration: FINANCE with REAL ESTATE!

A new concentration is now available within the Finance major starting Fall 2019! Students who choose this concentration will gain fundamental knowledge and skills to analyze and negotiate commercial real estate.

The curriculum incorporates concepts such as architecture, economics, finance, and geography to highlight the collaborative nature of the real estate industry. Faculty will incorporate theory as well as real world application to allow students to address trends and issues within the industry.

In addition to the required business core classes, students pursuing this concentration will complete:

• FINN 3255 - Real Estate Principles (3)
