Meet Bank of America on 9/18/19!
If you are a business major with a focus on finance, business analytics, accounting or MIS, come out and join Future Leaders of Accounting and Alpha Kappa Psi as they host Bank of America (BOA) on September 18th from 6:15pm-8:00pm in the Cone Center Rom 261. Headquartered in Charlotte NC, BOA is an incredibly large company that boasts $2,325 billion in assets, $91 billion in revenue as well over 200,000 employees. It is a Fortune 25 company.
Representatives from BOA will be providing an overview of BOA, as well as their perspectives on topics ranging from interviewing approaches, professional certifications, graduate school and anything else you would want to discuss. They will also be providing an overview of their summer 2020 internship program. Come and learn how to prepare for and make key decisions about your future career.
This event’s intimate setting will allow you the opportunity to directly interact and network with professionals at a company that can offer you an internship and/or full-time job!

Welcome Miles Winston!
We are excited to welcome Miles Winston to the Niblock Student Center team as an Academic and Career Coach! He will work with students who are Pre-Accounting or Accounting majors.
Miles previously worked at Winston-Salem State University in Career Development Services. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Winston-Salem State University and a Masters in Public Administration from UNC Pembroke. He is originally from the small town of Oxford but has lived in Durham, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Charlotte previously.
His advice to students is: Be active, engaged, and present while taking advantage of the many resources available to you. Also, take some time to enjoy the journey.

AICPA Scholarship Announcement Spring 2019
We wanted to let you know of scholarship opportunities for students who are majoring in accounting or considering accounting as a major. The AICPA Legacy Scholarships will be awarding more than 100 scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year; scholarships range from $3,000 - $10,000/student.
There are 5 categories of awards, including scholarships available only to women, minority students and those transferring from community college to a 4-year program. All applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and plan to pursue the CPA license after graduation.

Future Leaders of Accounting
Welcome Back Niners! Are you interested in Accountingand Finance roles that aren't in the realm of public accounting? Future Leaders of Accounting is a great way to hear from companies in the Charlotte area about amazing opportunities for a career after graduation! Get a chance to ask successful professionals in the city about the business and transitioning from college to career.
Our first meeting of the semester will be January 23, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Student Union 340C with Grant Thornton Advisory. There is no GPA requirement to join! All majors and class levels are welcome! Come learn more about the industry and how to get a jump start into your future!

Accounting Summer Leadership Fair
Mark your calendar for Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 from 10:30am-1:00pm in the Halton Reading Room (inside Atkins Library).
NOTE: This event is for current juniors or seniors who will still be enrolled in the Fall.
The Niblock Student Center and Turner School of Accountancy are co-hosting the annual Accounting Summer Leadership Fair for YOU to talk directly with public accounting firms about their summer leadership/conference experiences for students. Attending these conferences often serves as a gateway to internships and future employment.
This is a drop-in style event, so you can arrive anytime between 10:30am and 1:00pm.

Talk by North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood
Future Leaders of Accounting will be hosting NC State Auditor Beth Wood on Wednesday, November 14 from 6-8pm in Friday 112. Beth Wood is a Certified Public Accountant in her third term as North Carolina’s elected State Auditor. She is also the first woman elected State Auditor in North Carolina. Wood was honored as one of the Most Powerful Women in Accounting in 2013 by CPA Practice Advisor.
Future Leaders of Accounting invites you to attend her talk on what it is like to audit the state of North Carolina. No RSVP is necessary.

Career Profile
Meet the Chair!
This year marks Dr. Hughlene Burton's 23rd year at UNC Charlotte, and 8th year as the Director of the Turner School of Accountancy. Prior to starting at UNC Charlotte, she worked as a CPA at Deloitte and Ernst & Young. Dr. Burton says that more and more firms are coming to our campus to recruit Accounting students, which creates opportunities in a variety of businesses. In terms of career paths, she foresees more accounting majors eventually ending up in CFO and CEO roles, and being more involved with data analytics and problem solving, which is an exciting future for accounting students.

The event will feature experienced leaders in the accounting, audit and tax profession, as well as a career fair that will give students an opportunity to learn about internship and entry-level career opportuniti es with local employers. Career Connection Mentoring
The Charlotte Chamber partners with an industry every year for their mentoring programs. This year, they have selected accounting as their industry of focus and UNC Charlotte has the opportunity to connect 50 students with mentors in the industry.
The chamber’s mission is to connect, innovate and grow opportunity for all who do business in Charlotte. The Chamber is advancing the Career Connection initiative to expand opportunities for students in high-job growth sectors. We are currently seeking to expand and diversify the talent pipeline in the accounting, audit and tax segment of the professional services industry.
If you are interested in careers in accounting, audit or tax, or in the professionals services arena in general, we encourage you to apply for the Career Connection mentoring program. See below for criteria and application details.
Student Mentee Selection Criteria:
Academic Levels: College Sophomores and Juniors
GPA Requirements: 2.5 on 4.0 scale and above preferred
Career Connection Mentoring Guidelines
- Mentors and mentees are expected to meet at least 6 times between November 2017 and May 2018 (about once per month, with an option to skip a month)
- A minimum of 3 of the meetings should be in-person, and other meetings can take place via phone or video chat (e.g. Skype, Facetime etc.)

MACC Info Session - Dec 1
The Master of Accountancy Program is hosting an on-campus information session for our current undergraduate students on December 1st.

Any UNC Charlotte student is invited to attend the event, which will be held in the BB&T Reading Room (2nd floor of Friday).
Drop-in hours will be from 11:00 a.m. til 1:00 p.m. with formal presentations on the MACC program beginning at 11:30 and 12:30.
A light lunch will be served. Students wanting to attend are asked to please RSVP to sgomes2@uncc.edu to ensure we have enough food for all.
