Sports Analytics Summer Practicum (1st & 2nd term)

By John Tobias | Lecturer (Sports Statistics & Analytics) and ESPN Statistician

For the 2nd straight summer, I will be teaching a Sports Analytics Summer Practicum (ITCS 4010) that I created last year that each of you played a big part in helping get the word out to your advisees & students. If you know of any undergraduate students who A) wants to have a career in sports analytics or B) get a chance to work directly for a professional sports franchise or network, then I highly encourage that they register for this course. This time I will be teaching both summer terms, but I believe there will only be 20 slots for each class. Listed below is a two-minute highlight video that was done for last summer's practicum to give students a better understanding of what the practicum is about. Every week, students will be doing a one-week project for a professional franchise or network. Also listed below is a breakdown of teams/organizations for both summer terms. They can register for whichever term that will interest them the most:

First Half Summer Term (May 24th -June 28th)

Carolina Panthers (1-Week)

Charlotte FC (1-Week)

ESPN (1-Week)

Second Half Summer Term (July 6th -August 9th)

Charlotte Hornets (1-Week)

Charlotte Knights (1-Week)

2020 Summer Olympics (1-Week)
